Business KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are top of mind for just about every business owner in the world. IRR, close rate, retention rate, EBITDA, the list goes on. Lately though, I've been giving more thought to Return on EMOTIONAL Investment. In short, is what I'm spending my time and emotion on actually making a difference in my life? Giving it some conscious thought led me to understand just how much time I was putting into things that made me unhappy. I ask myself 2 questions when I find my emotions rising:
Can I control the situation?
Does me being upset help to influence the outcome I'm after?
If the answer is no, I move on. Life is too short to be unhappy. Remember your Return on Emotional Investment.
